KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 8, 2024) – Six Queen's Football players were invited to the CFL Combines ahead of the 2024 Canadian Football League Draft, the league announced Thursday.
Offensive lineman
Ryan Berta, running backs
Jared Chisari and
Anthony Soles, linebacker
Olivier Muembi, and defensive end
Van Wishart were added to the National Combine Roster while defensive back
Stephane East was added to the Invitational Combine roster.
Berta (Hamilton, Ont.) was part of a Queen's Football offensive line that paved the way for the OUA's leading rushing offence, with Queen's finishing atop the conference with 1,938 rushing yards and 20 touchdowns in the regular season.
Chisari (Naples, ME) broke Queen's Football's single-season rushing yards record, surpassing Mike Giffin's 1,157 yards from the 2007 season, with an incredible total of 1,178 yards on the ground and seven touchdowns. Chisari, who was also named an OUA Offensive Player of the Week during the 2023 season, also broke Queen's Football's single-game record for touchdowns with five against the York Lions.
Soles (Pointe Claire, Que.) finished with 422 yards and 10 touchdowns in eight games last season, regular season and playoffs combined. During the 2022 season, Soles had 134 rushing attempts for 842 yards and 15 touchdowns in 11 games, regular season and playoffs combined.
Muembi (Stoney Creek, Ont.) finished with 36 tackles (27 solo, nine combined) in the regular season, tied for the team lead and 13
th in the OUA. Muembi also had one sack and 3.5 tackles for a loss in the 2023 regular season.
Wishart (Courtice, Ont.) led Queen's Football is sacks with five on the season, which was tied for fifth in the conference, while adding two sacks in the OUA Playoffs. Wishart also recorded 24.5 tackles (18 solo, 13 combined) in the regular season.
East (Toronto, Ont.) finished 2023 with 12 tackles, all solo, and an interception in six games.
The CFL Invitational Combine is scheduled for March 8 in Waterloo, Ont. while the National Combine runs from March 19-24 in Winnipeg, Man. The 2024 CFL Draft is scheduled for April 30.
