Ashton Miller-Melancon (Queen's Football) named Jenkins Trophy recipient as Varsity Teams Men’s Sports Athlete of the Year

Ashton Miller-Melancon of Queen's Men's Football was named the Jenkins Trophy recipient for the 2025-26 season at the Queen's Athletics & Recreation Colour Awards banquet Wednesday night.

The Jenkins Trophy is awarded to a Varsity Teams senior Men's Sports athlete who best displays qualities of competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, humanitarianism, scholastic achievement, and exceptional contributions to their team.

Miller-Melancon (Arts & Science) was named an OUA First Team All-Star after finishing tied for second on Queen's Football and tied for third in the conference in interceptions with three, while adding 25 tackles (20 solo, 10 assisted).

After being drafted by the CFL's Calgary Stampeders last spring, Miller-Melancon returned to Queen's Football and helped them capture the 117th Yates Cup, their first Yates Cup championship in 16 years.

Miller-Melancon is a four-time OUA All-Star and former U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian. He also led U SPORTS in interceptions in his first season with Queen's Football in 2021.

In his second season, Miller-Melancon was named a U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian.

Ashton has had an outstanding career on and off the field at Queen's," said Queen's Football Head Coach Steve Snyder. "He is on track to be a five-time Academic All-Canadian and one of the few Queen's Athletes to win the U SPORTS Top 8 Academic All-Canadian award.  He is a perennial all-star on the field and has re-signed with the CFL for the upcoming season after being drafter last year.

"He will be one of the top defensive backs to ever play at Queen's, putting himself into the record books for all-time interceptions. He helped start this magical playoff run with an interception for a touchdown vs. McMaster in our OUA quarterfinal matchup and was tasked with covering the opposing team's top receiver. Ashton is one of the all-time greats with lots of football left to play in his pro career."
