Queen's Women's Fencing finished sixth at the OUA Women's Fencing Championship in Toronto, Ont. over the weekend, while Queen's Artistic Swimming qualified for the CUASL Nationals after their performance at the Eastern Divisionals.
Gaels finish sixth overall at OUA Women's Fencing Championship
TORONTO, Ont. - Queen's Women's Fencing finished in sixth place overall at the 2024 OUA Women's Fencing Championship hosted by the University of Toronto this past weekend.
In the individual events on Day 1, the Gaels had a number of strong finishes, placing them third overall in the standings. Sabres Tia Gayowsky had the best individual finish of the day for Queen's, coming in fifth place with Sabre captain,
Kirstin Lang, finishing ninth. In Foil, captain
Hannah Bryan ended in eighth, as did
Charlotte Reed in the Epee event.

Queen's faced stiff competition in the team events on Day 2, but nevertheless earned banner points with two top eight results. The Sabre team (Tia Gayowsky,
Kirstin Lang,
Joyce Lyn Fox,
Quintyn Zuber) finished in fifth with a victory over McMaster. The Queen's Epee team (
Charlotte Reed,
Kaitlyn Rea,
Yashia Allen,
Songyeon Kim) lost to RMC in a very close match, finishing the competition in sixth place. Queen's Foil (
Hannah Bryan,
Sophie Kitson,
Annika Kim,
Shayna Sharma) came in ninth place overall.
The Queen's Gaels fence next at the OUA Men's Championship, being held in Ottawa, Ont. from March 16-17.

Queen's Artistic Swimming returned home with many ribbons after travelling to Quebec City this weekend for CUASL Eastern Divisionals
Experienced swimmers, Noémie Guindon-Riopel and Meg VrKoc earned 5th place for their engaging and dynamic duet while
Sarah Taylor swam beautifully and placed 6th in the solo event.
Claire Christie and
Caitlyn Nichols also had an excellent performance in the duet event and energized the judges with their lively routine. All five athletes later joined their teammates:
Evelyn Wille, Olivia Guay,
Isabella Thomas, Isabelle Ruus, and Zoë Rutten for the team free event. Together, the experienced team showcased incredible skill and power during their swim and secured a 6th place finish.

In the novice category,
Margarita Liubetskaya presented her solo for the first time this season and captivated the crowd with an emotional performance. Liubetskaya and her teammates:

Nadia Garcia,
Julia Sliwa, and
Maria Wassef also achieved a personal best performance during the team technical event and had their coach,
Elizabeth Hunt and fellow athlete,
Serena Wong beaming with pride as they cheered from the pool deck.
The club has successfully qualified for CUASL Nationals in March with many routines showing great promise.
