Queen's hosted 225 fencers from Ontario and Quebec in six events at the fourth Queen's Hugh Munby Fencing Open held at the ARC on October 26th and 27th.

The Gaels won their first two medals of the 2024-25 season with rookie Alexandre Prefontaine winning Bronze in the Men's Sabre event on Saturday and Tia Gayowsky duplicating this result, also earning Bronze, in Sunday's Women's Sabre competition.

On Saturday, Queen's had three Men's Epeeists in the top 32 and, in the Women's Foil event, there were four top 16 finishes with rookie Sarah Jacobson placing 9th, Annika Kim coming 12th, Shayna Sharma finishing in 13th and Women's Team Captain Sophie Kitson ending the day in 16th.

In the Men's Sabre event, in addition to Alexandre's third place finish, Men's Sabre Captain Luigi Burjato came in 8th with Luke Steverango finishing 10th and Andrew Boulos placing 13th.

On the second day of fencing, Sam Broughton finished 11th in the Men's Foil event with Men's Foil Captain Ewan Peterson finishing 12th and Men's Team Captain Cameron Hostetler Keates ending the day in 15th.
 
Women's Epee Captain, Elizabeth Fullteron, placed 6th in Women's Epee, with three other Gaels finishing just outside the top 16.
In the final event of the competition, Women's Sabre, Queen's had three top 16 finishes with Quintyn Zuber placing 8th and Women's Sabre Captain Joyce Lyn Fox finishing in 16th, in addition to Tia's third-place finish.

The Queen's Varsity Fencing team will compete again next weekend (Nov. 1-2, 2024) at the RMC Team Invitational.
