KINGSTON, Ont. (Jan. 22, 2024) –
Alyson Reeves and
Christian Purboo have been named the Queen's University Varsity Sports Student-Athletes of the Week for their performances with Queen's Hockey this past weekend.
Reeves (Toronto, Ont.), helped Queen's Women's Hockey sweep their weekend series against the York Lions with four points over two games, including two goals and one assist in the Gaels' 4-1 win over York on Saturday, and an assist in Queen's 3-2 overtime win over the Lions on Sunday.
With the two wins, the Gaels improved their record to 11-10-0-0 on the season. Queen's returns to the ice next weekend, hosting the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks on Saturday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre.
Purboo (Oakville, Ont.) helped Queen's Men's Hockey sweep their weekend series of games, opening the weekend with an 18-save shutout in the Gaels' 3-0 win over the Toronto Varsity Blues, before stopping 38 of 39 shots in Queen's 3-1 win over the Concordia Stingers. Purboo finished the weekend stopping 56 of 57 shots faced for a .982 save percentage.
The Gaels record improved to 14-7-1-0 with the two wins this weekend. Queen's hosts the Stingers next weekend, Friday, Jan. 26 at 7:30 p.m. at the Memorial Centre.
