Queen's Men's Hockey faced off against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks in a spirited Friday night tilt at the Kingston Memorial Centre.
The Gaels came out firing, generating early pressure in the offensive zone. Their effort paid off when defenseman Michael Renwick (Arts & Science) ripped a point shot through traffic to open the scoring. Ian Lemieux (Arts & Science) and Derek Hamilton (Arts & Science) earned the assists on the play. Ontario Tech quickly responded, converting on a rush to tie the game at one. The Ridgebacks kept their foot on the gas, capitalizing on a late power play to take a 2–1 edge into the first intermission.Â
Ontario Tech carried the momentum into the second, striking early to extend the lead. The pace and physicality ramped up as both sides battled along the boards, but the Ridgebacks stayed in control, adding two more power-play markers. Midway through the frame, Tanner Wickware (Graduate Studies) entered the crease for his first appearance as a Gael. Ontario Tech found the back of the net once more before the buzzer, taking a commanding 5–1 advantage into the final period.
The third frame featured tighter defensive play at both ends, with neither team able to break through. Queen's continued to press but couldn't find an answer, falling 5–1 to the Ridgebacks.
The Gaels are back in action Friday, October 31, when they host their next match up at the Memorial Centre against the McGill Redbirds. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. — student tickets available at gogaelsgo.com.Â
