KINGSTON, Ont. (May 4, 2022) - Longtime Queen's Women's Basketball Head Coach Dave Wilson was presented the John McManus Award at the OUA Honour Awards Banquet Wednesday.
The John McManus Award is presented to a retired OUA coach, who exemplifies the highest ideals and qualities of sportsmanship and service while engaged in coaching in university sport.
Wilson coached nearly 40 years before retiring at the end of the 2018-19 season.
A strategically skilled leader, and a respected and celebrated coach, Wilson led his players to innumerable successes both on and off the court.
He began his coaching career in 1981-82 and amassed 385 career wins with the Gaels. He led Queen's to an OUA title in 2000-01 and is a four-time OUA coach of the year. In 2017, he was honoured as the U SPORTS coach of the year after leading the Gaels to an OUA Final Four and another national championship appearance. Wilson's student-athletes had a 100 per cent graduation rate in his career as a coach.
The 2021-22 Gaels Women's Basketball team, in part recruited by Wilson, won the Bronze Medal at the U SPORTS Women's Final 8 Basketball Championship, coached by Wilson's former student-athlete
