Brooke Hussey of Queen's Women's Basketball capped off an outstanding debut season by securing a spot on the U SPORTS Women's Basketball Rookie All-Team at the U SPORTS All-Canadian Awards banquet in Vancouver, BC, on Wednesday night.
Hussey (Kinesiology), who was earlier named the OUA Rookie of the Year and cementing her spot on the OUA All-Rookie Team, capped off an impressive debut season.Â
Hailing from Etobicoke, Ont., Hussey made an impact on both ends of the court, leading all OUA rookies with 53 assists while averaging 11.3 points per game and collecting 106 total rebounds.
A remarkable rookie season has etched Hussey's name into Queen's Gaels history, multiple records and ranking among the program's all-time best first-year performances.Â
"Brooke had quite an impactful first season in our program, making significant contributions on both ends of the floor," said Queen's Head Coach
Claire Meadows. "Defensively, Brooke is an absolute pest. Over the course of the season, Brooke became a lockdown defender and led our team in steals."
Offensively, Hussey led all Queen's rookies in total points (237), surpassing the previous record of 201 set by Liz Boag in 2010-11. The first-year player also finished first among Queen's rookies in field goals made (97) and field goals per game (4.6).
On the defensive end, Hussey was a force, finishing first in steals (53, 2.5 SPG) among all Queen's rookies.Â
Hussey's exceptional rookie campaign has solidified a place among the top athletes in Queen's Women's Basketball history.
