Former Gaels football star centre Patrick Plishka passed away on Friday, May 10, at the age of 63.
Commonly known as Arnie, Plishka played five seasons with the Queen's football program from 1975 through to 1979. He was a three-time conference champion and in 1978 was both a Yates Cup and Vanier Cup champion and was known as a leader both on and off the field and a fierce competitor. He later went on to sign a professional contract with the Toronto Argonauts.
Plishka spent 34 years teaching at O'Neill Collegiate and Vocational Institute and was nominated for the Ontario Teachers Federation "Teacher of the Year" award in 2006.
