OTTAWA - The Queen's women's ultimate team was able to come away with the CUUC (Canadian University Ultimate Championship) national bronze medal this weekend while the men's team finished with a fourth overall standing.
The Gaels women's team went 2-1 in round robin play with wins over McMaster and Laval along with a loss to Toronto.
In the quarter-final Queen's entered as the third seed and defeated the eighth seed McGill in a 10-5 game Sunday morning. The Gaels advanced to the national semifinal where they drew fifth ranked Laval whom the Gaels had beaten previously in the weekend.
Laval won 10-9 on a universe point 10-9 sending the Gaels to the bronze medal match. Queen's took on Western for bronze and were able to take away a 1-0 victory to claim third place in Canada.
On the men's side, after a 2-1 round-robin Queen's was ranked first taking on eigth seed Dalhousie in the quarter-final. The Gaels snuck away with a 13-12 win and advanced to challenge the second seeded Toronto. The Varsity Blues narrowly defeated the Gaels 11-10 and Queen's went to the Bronze medal match against Laval.
The Rouge et Or took an 11-7 victory giving Queen's a fourth place finish.
