Queen's Athletics wrapped up another busy weekend of competition, highlighted by a record-setting performance from Women's Golf, strong individual finishes on the course, an impressive opening weekend for Women's Squash, a 3-1 start for Women's Water Polo, and a split weekend at home for Field Hockey.
Golf
Queen's Golf put together a standout weekend on the course, led by Hannah Lee (Health Sciences & Nursing) and Cameron Greatrex (Smith Engineering).
Lee continued an impressive start to her university career by capturing her third university event. She fired rounds of 70 and 68 to finish the two-day event at four-under par.
Her performance also helped lead the Gaels to the best team score in program history, as Queen's finished at three-over with a score of 216.
On the men's side, Greatrex made an immediate impact in his first event back from injury. Greatrex shot consecutive rounds of 69 to finish the tournament at four-under par and claim second place individually.
Greatrex's performance helped lead Queen's Men's Golf to a four-under finish across the two rounds.
Women's Squash Opens Jester's League Campaign
After more than a month of preseason training and preparation, Queen's Women's Squash opened its Jester's League campaign over the weekend in Montreal, earning a commanding victory over the Ottawa Gee-Gees before narrowly falling to the host McGill Martlets.
Queen's began the weekend in dominant fashion, sweeping Ottawa 7-0. The Gaels did not drop a single game across the seven matches, with Gabriella Menezes, Julia Horsey, Ann Doyle, Eva Ghai, Julia Nash and Maya Lakhani all recording 3-0 victories.
The matchup also marked the Queen's debuts of rookies Horsey and Doyle, with both earning straight-games victories in their first appearances for the Gaels.
Queen's faced a tougher test in its second matchup against McGill, with the contest coming down to the final matches before the Gaels narrowly fell 4-3.
Nash and Emilie Wallace led the way with convincing 3-0 victories, while Lakhani battled through a five-game match to earn a crucial 3-2 win for Queen's. The remaining matches were closely contested as the Gaels pushed the host Martlets throughout the afternoon.
Despite the narrow loss, Queen's opening sectional showcased the depth of the 2026-27 lineup, with contributions from both returning players and rookies. The Gaels finished their first weekend of Jester's League competition with a 1-1 record.
Queen's will return to action at the Jester's League Crossover Event on Nov. 7-8.
Women's Water Polo Opens CUWPA Season 3-1
Queen's Women's Water Polo opened the new Canadian University Water Polo Association (CUWPA) season with an impressive 3-1 record over four games at the University of Toronto.
The Gaels opened their weekend Saturday against the 2025 finalists from McGill and wasted little time finding their offence. Queen's put together a dominant scoring performance against a McGill side featuring a former national team goalkeeper, earning a 21-13 victory.
Queen's carried that momentum into its second game of the day against the Ottawa Gee-Gees, cruising to a 20-6 win. The offence came from throughout the lineup, with 12 different Gaels finding the back of the net, including nine rookies.
On Sunday morning, Queen's faced McMaster in a rematch of last season's bronze medal game. The Gaels jumped out to a commanding lead, outscoring the Marauders 13-1 in the first half before closing out a 20-5 victory.
Queen's finished the weekend with its toughest test against the league-leading and defending champion Toronto Varsity Blues. Toronto came away with a 17-4 victory, handing the Gaels their only loss of the weekend.
Rookie Hannah Hewett ([Faculty]) led the Queen's offence throughout the four games, scoring 17 goals in her first CUWPA weekend. Fellow rookie Jaya Basu ([Faculty]) added 13 goals, while captain Evie Carr (Arts & Science) finished close behind with 12.
The 3-1 opening weekend gives the Gaels a strong start to their CUWPA campaign while also providing an early look at where the group can continue to develop against the league's top competition.
Men's Water Polo Opens CUWPA Schedule
Queen's Men's Water Polo also began its CUWPA schedule in Toronto, finishing the opening weekend with an 0-4 record.
The Gaels opened against the Carleton Ravens in one of their closest contests of the weekend. The two sides battled through a high-scoring matchup before Carleton edged Queen's 20-19 in a shootout.
Queen's returned to the pool Saturday against McMaster, falling 24-16 to close out the opening day.
The Gaels faced another difficult test Sunday morning against the 2025 silver medalist Western Mustangs, with Western earning a 20-11 victory. Queen's then wrapped up the weekend against the defending champion Toronto Varsity Blues, falling 18-9.
Captain Kristijan Markovski (Engineering) led the Gaels offensively with 13 goals over the weekend, while rookie Victor Kubay ([Faculty]) made an immediate impact with 12. Lazar Paroski (Engineering) and John Campbell (Smith Engineering) added eight and seven goals, respectively.
Queen's will also look forward to the return of goalkeeper Wyatt Foerter (Smith School of Business), who is currently representing the national team at the 19U Pan American Championships. His return will allow Ronan Love (Applied Science) to move back into his regular role in the field-player rotation.
Field Hockey Splits Weekend at Tindall Field
Queen's Field Hockey returned to Tindall Field for a pair of home matchups over the weekend, earning a win over Western before a narrow loss to York.
The Gaels opened the weekend Friday night against the Western Mustangs as a strong crowd of friends, family and supporters filled the stands for Community Night.
Queen's and Western battled through a tightly contested matchup, with neither side able to break through for much of the game. Late in the contest, Hailey Bauder (Arts & Science) capitalized on a penalty corner to score the game's only goal and secure a 1-0 victory for the Gaels.
Queen's returned to action Sunday against the York Lions. The Gaels continued to apply pressure throughout the matchup and kept the contest close, but York ultimately found the difference in a 1-0 victory.
Queen's will hit the road next Saturday to take on the Guelph Gryphons before returning to Tindall Field on Sunday to host the McMaster Marauders.
