Queen's Football edged the host Guelph Gryphons 27-17 in Guelph, Ont. Saturday for their fourth win in a row, improving their record to 5-2 on the season.
After a scoreless first quarter, Queen's and Guelph traded blows in the second quarter and were deadlocked 10-10 at half time.
Queen's held a small 13-10 lead after three quarters before outscoring the Gryphons 14-7 down the stretch for the 10-point win.
Quarterback
Alex Vreeken (Kinesiology) had another solid game for Queen's, finishing 20-28 for 273 yards and two touchdown passes.
Nathan Falconi (Health Studies) also continued a terrific season, recording four receptions for 115 yards and a touchdown.
And running back Jard Chisari (Graduate Studies) led the way on the ground, finishing the game with 13 carries for 110 yards and a touchdown.
Defensive back
Ashton Miller-Melancon (Arts & Science), led a strong defensive effort for Queen's Football with a team-high seven tackles (five solo, four assisted) while
Jacob Baldwin (Economics) and
DJ Ryan (Health Studies) each recorded a sack, while
Eli Bennett (Engineering) and
Tom Nitschke (Arts & Science) combined for a third sack for Queen's Football.
With the win, Queen's Football maintained their hold on third place in the OUA standings. Queen's has a bye next week before closing out the regular season at home, hosting the Windsor Lancers on Saturday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium in the Homecoming Game.
