Queen's Football loses tight contest to Windsor in front of packed Homecoming crowd at Richardson Stadium

BOX SCORE A back-and-forth affair at Richardson Stadium saw Queen's Football lose a tight 31-28 contest to the Windsor Lancers in front of a sold out crowd in the Homecoming Game.

Windsor opened the scoring with a rouge before adding two field goals, but Queen's would score the first major of the game to even the score.

The Lancers would take a 14-8 lead into half time before a back and forth second half. Queen's would even the score 28-28 late in the fourth quarter, but Windsor was able to get into field goal range and take a three-point lead with less than a minute left to play.

Queen's tried a late comeback attempt with an exciting lateral play but it came up short and Queen's ultimately fell in the game.

Quarterback Alex Vreeken (Kinesiology) finished with 201 passing yards and two touchdowns - one through the air on a tremendous catch and run by Cedric Smith (Arts & Science), and one on the ground.

Jared Chisari (Graduate Studies) finished the game with 98 yards on 12 carries.

On defence, Brandon Spence (Kinesiology) led all Queen's players with seven tackles (three solo, eight assisted). Fellow linebacker Jacob Baldwin (Economics) had a strong game as well for Queen's, including an interception.

With the loss, Queen's finished the OUA regular season with a 5-3 record, good for fourth in the OUA standings.

Queen's will host the McMaster Marauders in the quarterfinals, Saturday, Oct. 25 at 1 p.m. at Richardson Stadium. Fans can get tickets for the playoff game on gogaelsgo.com/tickets.
