Queen's Football dropped a 39-14 road decision to the Western Mustangs Saturday afternoon in London, Ont.
It was a tight contest through the first half, with the Mustangs leading 2-0 after the first quarter off a safety surrendered by Queen's, and 5-0 midway through the second quarter after adding a field goal.
Western would add two touchdowns before half time, but Queen's would respond with a highlight reel touchdown late in the second quarter when quarterback
Anthony Lio (Kinesiology) connected with receiver
Logan Walton (Economics) for a 29-yard touchdown.
Western added a safety, field goal, and touchdown in the third quarter, and another touchdown in the fourth quarter. Lio and receiver
Nathan Falconi (Health Studies) connected for an impressive 17-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, as Queen's fell by 25 points.
Jared Chisari (Graduate Studies) had a strong game for Queen's on offence, finishing with 15 carries for 120 yards. Falconi recorded five receptions for 43 yards.
On defence,
Justin Pace (Economics) racked up 12 tackles (nine solo, six assisted), two tackles for a loss, and a sack.
Darien Newell (Philosophy) added a sack while Queen's finished with two interceptions as well, with
John Corscadden (Graduate Studies) and
Ashton Miller-Melancon (Arts & Science) each grabbing one.
With the loss, Queen's Football's four-game winning streak was snapped, and their record fell to 4-2. Western improved to 4-1 with the win.
Queen's returns to action next weekend with their second straight game on the road, taking on the Laurier Golden Hawks (5-0) on Saturday, October 5 at 1 p.m. in Waterloo, Ont.
