Queen's Football suffered a road loss to the Windsor Lancers on Saturday afternoon. After a slow start for both teams, the Lancers picked it up in the second half to secure a 29-5 win over Queen's.
Queen's and Windsor brought defensive intensity early in the game, leaving the scoreboard blank for most of the first quarter. Though Queen's eventually secured a safety in the last minute of play.
In the second quarter the game remained a defensive affair.
Dawson Matthews-Reid (Ottawa, Ont.) picked off an early Lancer pass and
Liam Sutherland (Ottawa, Ont.) landed a beautiful sack. Despite these efforts, however, Windsor put up two good field goals of 16 and 47 yards.
At half, Queen's was down four points and both teams had yet to score a touchdown.
Soon the Lancers put up another field goal to start the second half, but Queen's quickly responded with one of their own to keep it within four points.
At the end of the third, however, the Lancer defense took hold of the game. Windsor grabbed three interceptions that they quickly converted into three touchdowns to put themselves up 29-5.
Queen's kept up the intensity all the way through the fourth, but it wasn't enough for a comeback. Windsor took the win and improved their record to 5-0.
Jared Chisari (Naples, ME) led the game in rushing yards with 64, and
Anthony Soles (Pointe Claire, Que.) was right there next to him with 62 rushing yards of his own.
Nico Kwemo (Montreal, Que.) and
Aidan O'Neal (Sackville, N.B.) also topped the charts with the most receiving yards of 63 and 49 respectively.
Queen's Football will hope to improve on this loss when they play their next game on Saturday, Sept. 30 in North York, Ont. against the York Lions.
