Gaels’ Mya Brubacher, alumnae Sophie de Goede, McKinley Hunt named to Team Canada for Pacific Four Series

KINGSTON, Ont. (July 5, 2023) – Queen's Women's Rugby's Mya Brubacher and Gaels alumnae Sophie de Goede and McKinley Hunt were named to Canada's Senior Women's team for the 2023 World Rugby Pacific Four Series matches in Ottawa later this month.

Brubacher (Elmira, Ont.) was named a U SPORTS First Team All-Canadian and OUA First Team All-Star at prop last season after finishing the year with two tries and helping the Gaels win the OUA Championship and U SPORTS silver medal. Brubacher was also named a tournament all-star at the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship.

de Goede (Victoria, B.C.) was named Queen's Varsity Female Athlete of the Year, as well as the OUA and U SPORTS Athlete of the Year in 2021-22, her final season at Queen's. That year she helped the Gaels capture the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship, their first national championship in program history.

Hunt (King City, Ont.), who graduated from Queen's in 2020, was awarded the PHE '55 Alumnae Award as Queen's Varsity Teams Female Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season. She finished her career with the Gaels as a three-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and OUA All-Star.

Canada will take on New Zealand on Saturday, July 8, and Australia on Friday, July 14 in the Pacific Four Series, with both matches taking place at TD Place.
