Queen's Athletics & Recreation announced today that
David Butcher will step down as head coach of the Queen's Men's Rugby program in December to pursue opportunities in professional and international rugby.
"I have thoroughly enjoyed working with every athlete that has come through the men's rugby program," said Butcher. "I feel privileged to have been a part of the development of these young men and will carry many fond memories with me from the last seven years."
Butcher took over as the first full-time head coach of Queen's Men's Rugby in 2017. He led the program to three consecutive OUA Championships in 2017, 2018 and 2019, and collected one silver medal, two bronze medals and a fifth-place finish at the Canadian University Men's Rugby Championship.
Over his time at the helm of the program, the Gaels had a regular season record of 36-2, an OUA playoff record of 9-3 and went 7-5 in CUMRC competition.
A search for the next Head Coach of the Queen's Men's Rugby program will soon be underway.
