KINGSTON, Ont. (Aug. 18, 2022) - Queen's Women's Volleyball will have two current players representing Canada on the international stage next month.
Arielle Palermo has been selected for Canada's Senior A Team roster for the FIVB Women's World Championship while
Hannah Duchesneau has been selected to Canada's roster for the NORCECA Pan American Cup and the NORCECA Pan American Cup Final 6.
Palermo (Burlington, Ont.) competed with Canada's Senior Women's National Team in the Volleyball Nations League earlier this summer. An outside hitter for the Gaels, Palermo played libero for Canada during VNL action and will continue in that role at the World Championship.
Palermo was named an OUA East Division First Team All-Star last season after leading the Gaels in kills with 83 (2.86 per set) and points with 93.5. She was also third on the team in digs with 56 and recorded eight service aces.
The FIVB Women's World Championship will be held from September 23 - October 15 in the Netherlands. Team Canada is in Pool C for the Championship, alongside the United States, Serbia, Germany, Bulgaria, and Kazakhstan.
Duchesneau (Sharon, Ont.) was selected to Canada's NextGen Team and trained with the Senior National Team earlier this summer.Â
She was named to the OUA East Division All-Rookie Team this past season, her first competing with the Gaels. Duchesneau was fifth on the Gaels in points (51.0) and kills (39) this season. The Outside Hitter also recorded 19 digs, 11 blocks, five assists, and five service aces in the regular season.
The NORCECA Pan American Cup runs from August 19-29 in Mexico. Canada will face Cuba, Colombia, Nicaragua, and Mexico in Pool B action.
The NORCECA Pan American Cup Final 6 runs from September 2-11 in Dominican Republic. Competing alongside Canada will be Puerto Rico, Cuba, the United States, Mexico, and Dominican Republic.
