Four Gaels selected to Canada's Senior Women's Rugby XV for Pacific Four Series

KINGSTON, Ont. (May 16, 2022) - Four Queen's Gaels Women's Rugby players were selected to Canada's Senior Women's Rugby XV to compete in the upcoming Pacific Four Series.

Chloe Daniels, Sophie de Goede, McKinley Hunt, and Taylor Perry will join Canada's Senior Team in the Pacific Four Series in New Zealand next month.

Daniels (Sutton West, Ont.) was named the OUA Rookie of the Year this past season after finishing the regular season third in team scoring with four tries and helping the Gaels win the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship.

Daniels also competed with Canada's Senior Women's Sevens team at the Emirate Dubai 7s in late 2021.

de Goede (Victoria, BC) was named the OUA Female Athlete of the Year earlier this month after starring in both Women's Rugby and Women's Basketball at Queen's this past season, helping both teams earn national medals on home venues in their respective sport.

In the fall, de Goede was named the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Player of the Year and tournament MVP at the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship after helping lead Queen's to their first ever Women's Rugby Championship.

de Goede, who was also named the OUA Player of the Year in Women's Rugby for the third straight season last week, finished the 2021 season with 52 points, bringing her career total at Queen's up to 208 points, just 11 points behind Lauren McEwen, who is first all-time in points at 219. It was de Goede's second-highest scoring season with the Gaels, behind only her 2019 season when she scored 76 points.

Hunt (King City, Ont.), who graduated from Queen's in 2020, was awarded the PHE '55 Alumnae Award as Queen's Varsity Teams Female Athlete of the Year for the 2019-20 season. She finished her career with the Gaels as a three-time U SPORTS All-Canadian and OUA All-Star.

In her final season with the Gaels in 2019-20, Hunt helped lead the Gaels to an OUA Championship and U SPORTS silver medal where she was also named a Tournament All-Star.

Perry (Oakville, Ont.) missed all of last season due to injury. She played in six matches for the Gaels in 2019, leading the team in regular season try scoring, despite missing two matches due to injury. She returned for the U SPORTS Women's Rugby Championship, where she helped lead the Gaels to a silver medal.

Perry was also invited to participate in Canada Rugby 7s Next Gen camp earlier this year.

The Pacific Four Series kicks off the "Journey to the Rugby World Cup" and begins June 5 with Canada taking on the United States. The team will also take on New Zealand on June 11 and Australia on June 18.
