Golf
Queen's Men's Golf captured the OUA Championship Friday at Cherry Downs Golf Club in Pickering, Ont.
Queen's won the tournament with a final team score of +3, nine strokes ahead of second place finishers, Wilfrid Laurier.
The Gaels'
Zachary Greifenberger,
Michael von Schalburg, and
Nick Pacione all finished with a round of 70 (-1), two strokes behind the top finisher, Windsor's Thomas Demarco (-3). Greifenberger was Queen's top finisher and second overall via the Golf Ontario Tie-Breaking Policy. von Schalburg finished fourth and Pacione fifth.
Greifenberger, von Schalburg, and Pacione were all named to the OUA Men's All-Star team.
John Stewart finished tied for 27th with a round of 77 (+6).
Queen's Women's Golf finished fourth in the OUA Championship with a final team score of +47, 22 strokes behind the champions, Western.
Rachel Demaine was the Gaels' top finisher with a round of 82 (+10).
Ultimate
Queen's Men's Ultimate captured the silver medal at the National Championship in Brampton, Ont. this past weekend.
The Gaels started slow, losing tough games against the University of British Columbia, Montreal, and Laval to finish 0-3 on Saturday.
Queen's finished much better on Sunday. Taking on McGill in the quarterfinals in a rematch of the 2018 Final, Queen's edged the Redbirds 10-9 to advance to the semifinals, where they would play Waterloo.
The Gaels rolled to a comfortable 11-7 win over Waterloo with clean offence and great conversions from the D line to advance to the Final. Queen's would face Montreal again in the final, and would lose by one point, to finish with the silver.
"I'm really proud of how hard we fought today after some tough games yesterday," team captain Wilkie Lewis said on Sunday. "The young guys made some amazing plays in big moments this weekend and I'm really excited to see where the team goes in the coming years."
Taige Tomlinson, John Xia, and Eric Zhu all had standout performances for Queen's. Tomlinson was everywhere on both sides of the disc, frustrating opposition handlers and scoring at will in the deep space. Xia had some big moments generating gainers and carving up defences and Zhu regularly put his body on the line with possession saving grabs and layout blocks on D.
Queen's Women's Ultimate also captured the bronze medal in the National Championship in Brampton over the weekend.
Lacrosse
Queen's Women's Lacrosse hosted the Toronto Varsity Blues at Tindall Field this past Saturday, winning 14-4 to remain undefeated and improving their record to 6-0 on the season.
The Gaels got into a possession battle with the Varsity Blues early on, with Toronto controlling the play. Despite having few offensive chances, Christina Holmes netted two goals and Brooke Rutledge added one to give Queen's a 3-0 lead at half time. Holmes scored her third goal of the game in the second quarter while Kiah Shanks and Charlotte Sawicki each added one to give the Gaels a 6-2 half time lead.
Shanks would go on to net four goals in the third quarter to help push Queen's lead to 11-2 heading into the final frame, and the Gaels would go on to win 14-4.
Shanks (five goals, one assist), Holmes (four goals, three assists), Rutledge (two goals, two assists) and Jordan Kummer (four assists) led the way offensively for Queen's.
The Gaels will wrap up their regular season next weekend on the road with a double header against the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks.
Queen's Men's Lacrosse team defeated the Carleton Ravens 9-7 at Miklas-McCarney Field this past Sunday.
Carleton opened the scoring with two goals before Carter McKenzie responded for Queen's with two of his own to tie the game in the first quarter.
After Carleton took a one-goal lead, the Gaels netted three straight goals scored by Curtis Plante and Ryan Trus and Noah Millsap with their first career CUFLA goals.Â
Zach Glazebrook also scored his first career CUFLA goal in the fourth quarter on way to Queen's two-goal win.
The game was Quinton Greenfield's first season game as goaltender, and he was a key to the Gaels' success.
Other highlights included Hawkeye Hamilton winning 14 of 17 faceoffs, Trus causing five Carleton turnovers, Glazebrook finishing with one goal and one assist, Ryan Radisa recording two assists, Bryan Poetker netting two goals, and Curtis Plante finishing with a goal and an assist.
Water Polo
Queen's Women's Water Polo returned to the pool this past Sunday for their first game in 698 days, a 13-9 loss to Carleton. The roster is 50 per cent new, with only three former starters in the current lineup, but the players were thrilled to be back.
Leading the scoring for Queen's were co-captain Madeleine Bisaillon and Chloe Buso. Bisaillon did a bit of everything in the game, including scoring, assisting, blocking shots, and steals. Buso joined the starting lineup this year after transitioning from competitive hockey.
Co-captain Sidney Hutchinson added two goals to the team effort while focusing on defensive leadership, playing the entire game without a break and developing a great rapport with rookie goalie Jessica Chilton. The single goal went to rookie Sid Chard, a grad student that was playing her first game ever.
The Ravens had six goals from their national team player, Valeria Rojas.
Queen's Women's Water Polo returns to action on Sunday, October 24 at 11:30 a.m. at the ARC pool against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
Fastpitch
Queen's Fastpitch hosted Ottawa for a doubleheader at Garrigan Park this past Sunday, splitting the games.
In Game 1, the Gaels watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 6-2 loss.
Lauren Kennedy took the loss for Queen's. The pitcher went seven innings, allowing six runs on nine hits and striking out two.

The Gaels bounced back with a 5-3 win in Game 2, getting out to a five-run lead in the sixth inning and holding on for the two-run win.

Abby Jacklin was the winning pitcher for Queen's after allowed four hits and three runs over seven innings and striking out seven.

Field Hockey

Queen's Field Hockey was in Toronto this past weekend for a doubleheader against the Varsity Blues on Saturday. The Gaels lost Game 1 5-1 and lost Game 2 2-0.
