Queen’s looks to head to Final Four as they visit No.10 Western in OUA Quigley Cup quarter-final Saturday afternoon for fourth straight year

KINGSTON, Ont. (February 27, 2020) - The OUA Quigley Cup quarter-final opens up Saturday afternoon as the Gaels make the trek to London, Ontario for the fourth consecutive season to open the OUA playoffs at the No.10 Western Mustangs. Stay tuned to OUA.ca for more details. 
 

FOUR STRAIGHT
The Gaels have travelled to Western to start the OUA playoffs each of the past three seasons losing 3-0 in 2017, 3-1 in 2018 and 3-1 in 2019.

Queen's will be looking to reverse their luck with a win on Saturday. The Gaels defeated Western earlier this season snapping a six-game losing streak to the Mustangs.

ROAD WARRIORS
Despite being on the road for their opening OUA playoff match, the Gaels have found success away from Kingston this year as they sport a 7-2 record on the road. This includes wins over then No.2 nationally-ranked Ryerson just last weekend, along with victories over Western, Trent, Lakehead, RMC, Nipissing and York.

SEASON SERIES
Queen's and Western met one time during the regular season in London and the Gaels took down the Mustangs 3-1. 

In the victory Arielle Palermo put down 13 kills while Julia Wiercigroch had 18 digs and five aces. Middle Saffron van der Linde was also a force at teh net with eight blocks.

LAST PLAYOFF MEETING
Queen's and Western last met in the 2019 OUA Quigley Cup playoffs when the Gaels fell 3-1 to the Mustangs. 
Caroline Livingston paced the Gaels with 16 kills in the match while Sierra Hardy finished with 42 assists for the Tricolour.

STAT LEADERS
The Gaels finished the season with players throughout the OUA individual leaders headlined by Arielle Palermo. The second-year Gael led the OUA in aces per set at 0.81, was third in total points with 289.5 and fourth in kills with 225.

Julia Wiercigroch finished third in the conference with a 3.31 kills per set mark, Danielle Corrigan was third in the OUA with a 0.308 hitting percentage and Teah Cook averaged 0.53 aces per set.

For the Mustangs, Kristina Curcin led the OUA in hitting percentage at 0.340 and Melissa Langegger was second to Palermo in aces per set at a 0.59 mark.
