Men's rugby takes down top rival Guelph 40-13

| By:
GUELPH, Ont. (September 28th, 2018) – The Queen's Gaels Men's Rugby Team (5-0) held strong on the road for a victory against perhaps their toughest matchup of the season in the Guelph Gryphons (4-1) by a score of 40 to 13.

GAME FLOW
The Gryphons got off to a quick start with two penalty kicks from fly half John Sheridan, making the score 6 to 0.

In spite facing a rare first half deficit, the Gaels would not waver and responded with two tries of their own. The first scored by fullback James MacDonald and the second scored by scrum half Dylan Young just before half time. The match headed to the break with the score 14-6 in favour of the visiting Gaels.

The two teams exchanged tries within the opening moments of the second half and the score moved to 26-13. Although that would end up being the last score for the Gryphons as the Gaels proceeded to dominate the rest of the match.

The Gaels added to their advantage with two more second half tries and managed to maintain their impressive defensive record, having now allowed only 49 points on the season through five matches, holding on for the 40-13 victory.

TURNER DEFENCE
With the victory the Gaels now have the inside track to host the OUA championship at Nixon Field for the second straight year as they look to defend their championship title.

BY THE NUMBERS
9.8 - The Gaels are allowing less than 10 points per game so far this season (9.8 per match to be exact)
11 - The Gaels only scored 40 points against Guelph, which is eleven fewer than any other match this season. A testament to their terrific offensive output so far in OUA play.
15 - The Gaels are undefeated in 15 straight OUA matches (including playoffs).
