Strong Showing for Queen’s Triathlon at Triathlon Ontario Indoor Championship

Seven Athletes represented Queen's Varsity Triathlon at the 2017 Triathlon Ontario Indoor Championships this past weekend.

The event, co-hosted by Triathlon Ontario and Toronto Triathlon Club, was located at the new Pan Am Athletic Sports Centre and saw an extremely competitive field of over 90 athletes. The race consisted of swim, bike, and run legs that lasted for 15 minutes each. Distances for each event were assigned an event-specific multiplier to convert them into points in an effort to equalize distance across the three sports. Athlete's points were then tallied across the three sports to decide a winner.

Maia Idzikowski and Megan Lovell each displayed strong efforts in the swim of the race and were able to carry their momentum forward with spectacular performances in the subsequent two legs. Idzikowski finished 2nd in the 16-19 category and 7th overall, while Lovell finished 3rd in the same category and 12th overall. Adam Sunavsky pieced together a great run at the end of his race, placing him 2nd in the Male 16-19 Category and 7th overall. Finally, Maddie Driver delivered an incredibly consistent effort across all three disciplines to place 2nd in the competitive Female 20-29 Category and 4th overall.

The Gaels displayed lots of enthusiasm and dedication throughout the event and are looking forward to close out their fantastic season at Western next weekend.
