KINGSTON, Ont. (March 26, 2024) - Queen's Triathlon's
James Griffin was named the Jack Jarvis Trophy recipient as Queen's University Varsity Clubs Men's Sports Athlete of the Year for the 2023-24 season during the 88th annual Colour Awards banquet at the Athletics and Recreation Centre (ARC) Tuesday night.
The Jack Jarvis Trophy is awarded annually to a Varsity Club male student-athlete in his 4th or 5th year who best displays qualities of scholastic achievement, competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication and exceptional contributions to his team. It was first presented by the boxers of Queen's as a tribute to Jack Jarvis, who coached the Queen's boxing team for 33 years.
Griffin (Applied Science)Â has been a consistent performer throughout his time on Queen's Triathlon. From his racing this season, Griffin has qualified to represent Canada for the 2024 World Triathlon Age Group World Championships in Spain.
Griffin finished first in his age group in the K-Town Triathlon and Barrie Triathlon, and second in his age group in the Toronto Triathlon.
"Having been a dedicated member of the team for many years, James naturally stepped into the role as leader on this team," said Queen's Triathlon co-presidents Connor Baumann and
Andres Moran-MacDonald. "He started as one of the bike captains, programming workouts and testing to improve the performance of every student on the team. Eventually, James progressed as one of the co-presidents of the team. Demanding more commitment and placing larger responsibility on him, James easily took command of his role.
