Eighteen athletes represented Queen's Varsity Triathlon at the 2017 Western University Splash n' Dash aquathlon on March 11th.
The event, hosted by the University of Western Ontario Triathlon, club took place at their Athletics and Recreation centre in London, Ontario. The race consisted of a 900m swim followed by a 5km run. Excluding a cycling component meant some new favourites could emerge. The sum of both times would be used to determine the winners.
The Gaels finished strong leaving Western with smiles as they enjoyed their last weekend of racing taking home nine of the twelve available podium spots. The Queen's team was painfully close to achieving the first place in each category as Maddie Driver, Stephane Contant and Nina Dauvergne took home gold in the Female Rookie, Male Rookie and Female Vet divisions respectively. Male Vet
Sam Dobbin came 2
nd to Western's Daniel Koerber by a mere one second time difference.
The Queen's Varsity Triathlon athletes will continue to train over the coming weeks with many of the athletes targeting a variety of outdoor triathlons this coming summer.
