Football inks four recruits including Sakhia Kwemo, younger brother of Nelkas

KINGSTON, Ont. (March 10, 2017) - Queen's football head coach Pat Sheahan is pleased to announce the signing and commitment of receiver Sakhia Kwemo (Montreal), kicker/punter Kieran Flannery-Fleck (Ottawa), offensive lineman Nicholas Pinard (Saint-Eustache, Que.) and linebacker Walter Karabin (King City, Ont.) to the Gaels football program.

Sakhia Kwemo is the younger brother of Gaels defensive captain Nelkas Kwemo and comes to the Gaels from The Gunnery in Washington, Connecticut. Kwemo is a Montreal native and plays receiver standing at 6-2 and 215lbs. Sakhia has played football in various formations including a new eight-player format with The Gunnery. The team went undefeated and Sakhia was the defensive MVP for his work at linebacker, a role he filled while also playing receiver. The 2017 football season will mark the first time that Nelkas and Sakhia will play football on the same team.

Flannery-Fleck is a 6-0, 170lbs kicker/punter out of Ottawa and Glebe CI. Flannery-Fleck played football with the Bel Air Norsemen in 2016 hitting 15/20 field goals on the season and 15/17 extra points. With the Norseman, Flannery-Fleck was named the special teams player of the year and was also the high school all star game MVP in 2016 with Glebe CI.

Pinard is the sixth offensive lineman in the Gaels 2017 recruiting class so far and comes in at 6-1, 265lbs. He hails from Saint-Eustache Quebec and has been a member of the Champlain Lennoxville CEGEP program.

The 6-2, 210lbs linebacker Karabin comes to the Gaels out of King City, Ontario and St. Andrews College. He was the captain of the junior varsity/U16 team where he was also named the MVP.
