KINGSTON, Ont (November 4, 2017) - The Queen's Gaels had no trouble getting past the Laurier Golden Hawks in the OUA semifinal on Saturday afternoon with a 54-7 win. The Gaels will now host the OUA championship next weekend at Nixon Field.
GAME FLOW
The Gaels pushed the pace on Laurier early, looking to get an early lead in the OUA semifinal. After a few attempts out of the ruck, it was Ruairidh MacPhail who was finally able to push a score past the try line.
Alex Colborne nailed the conversion to give Queen's an early 7-0 lead.
The team from Laurier looked to hang with the mighty Gaels and were the next team on the board. Jeremy Gamm took the ball off a lineout and made a move past the Queen's defence to pick up a try. The Golden Hawks made their conversion to even the score at 7-7.
In a near 10 minute span after Laurier tied the game up at 7-7, the Gaels were able to add on 21 points. Tries came from
Dylan Young,
Alex Pipchuk and Lachlon Devir with Colborne again coming through with conversions.
Heading into halftime, the Gaels led 35-7.
In the second half,
Evan Underwood extended the lead with a try at the 59-minute mark. Queen's added two more tries and conversions to seal the win 54-7.
With the win, Queen's will now host the OUA Championship at Nixon Field next weekend.
