LONDON, Ont. (October 1, 2016) - The Queen's Gaels (3-1-1) travelled to London to take on their long-time rivals the Western Mustangs (3-1-1) on a rainy, windy day where the two rivals ended up with an 11-11 tie.
GAME FLOW
It was homecoming weekend in London for the Mustangs and the Gaels were in hostile territory looking to steal a win away from the home side.Â
After neither team was able to find the score sheet early on, it was Western that struck as the half neared a close. First a penalty goal kick from Mitchell Brant at 29 minutes in put Western on the board 3-0. Brant followed up with another of the same and it was 6-0 Mustangs through 36 minutes.
With the half winding down the Gaels managed to get their first points of the match just before the whistle as
Dylan Young (Toronto) hit a penalty goal kick of his own. The whistle signalled the end of the half and Western had a slim 6-3 lead.
Not to be outdone in the second half Young matched his counterpart Brant and hit his second penalty goal kick of the game and things were all square at 6-6. In the 64th minute Western scored the first try of the game but missed their conversion to take an 11-5 lead. The Gaels battled back five minutes later and scored a try of their own thanks to Angus MacPhail (Vancouver) and the game was all tied up once again at 11-11.
Neither team was able to break the tie the rest of the way and the game ended 11-11.
