GAME OF THE WEEK
WOMEN'S HOCKEY
RECORD: 9-1-4-2Last time out: W 5-1 vs. LaurierSTREAK: Won 1
WHO'S HOT?: Courtenay Jacklin - Scored a four-point night in win against Laurier

The Gaels women's hockey team (9-1-4-2) hosts the No.1 Guelph Gryphons (12-3-2-1) at the Memorial Centre Saturday afternoon at 3:30pm in the Game of the Week. The UOIT Ridgebacks (4-1-12-1) are also in town this weekend for a Sunday afternoon matchup with the Gaels at 3:30pm at the Memorial Centre.

Queen's split last weekend's home games, falling 3-1 to Waterloo before grabbing their first win in four games with a 5-2 victory over Laurier. Emily Jukosky (Stirling, Ont.) scored her first CIS goal to put the Gaels ahead against Waterloo, before the Warriors came from behind to steal the win. Mary Coughlin (Amherstburg, Ont.) had a three-point weekend, assisting on Jukosky's goal, and picking up two more assists in the win against Laurier. Taryn Pilon (Peterborough, Ont.) scored the eventual game-winner on a highlight-reel goal from Coughlin and Courtenay Jacklin (Regina), who had a four-point game on a goal and three assists.

Guelph is first in the OUA standings as well as first in the CIS rankings heading into Saturday's game with Queen's. Since their shootout loss to Western to end the 2015 calendar, the Gryphons have started the new year on a five-game winning streak. Jessica Pinkerton picked up her OUA leading fifth game-winning goal on a three-point night in Guelph's only game last weekend, a 5-2 victory over Ryerson. The Gryphons bested the Gaels 4-1 when the teams met in early November in Guelph.

The Ridgebacks sit in 12th spot in the 13 team OUA, with Queen's doubling UOIT's points in the standings. UOIT is coming off a tough three-game home stand, in which the Ridgebacks suffered losses to Guelph, Waterloo, and Laurier. Mikaeli Cavell netted both UOIT goals in their 4-1 and 3-1 losses to Waterloo and Laurier, respectively. When the Ridgebacks hosted the Gaels, Queen's came away with a 5-1 win.

Both Gaels home games start at 3:30pm at the Memorial Centre. You can get tickets for these and other upcoming games here

MEN'S HOCKEY
RECORD: 13-6-1Last time out: W 3-1 @ NipissingSTREAK: Won 2
WHO'S HOT?: Slater Doggett - Scored three points last weekend and has points in 10 straight games

The Queen's men's hockey team (13-6-1) has a tough weekend with two games against CIS ranked opponents, hosting the No.8 Carleton Ravens (17-5-0) on Friday at 7:30pm and traveling to Montreal to play the No.6 McGill Redmen (19-4-1) at 5pm on Saturday.

The Gaels are coming off a successful two-game road trip, picking up a 3-2 win at Laurentian and a 3-1 victory at Nipissing last weekend. Three Gaels recorded three points between the two road games, as Slater Doggett (Oakville, Ont.) had three assists, Spencer Abraham (Campbellville, Ont.) had a goal and two assists, and Eric Ming (Williamstown, Ont.) scored two goals and one assist. The Queen's trio are all riding impressive point-streaks, with Ming leading the way at 11 games, Doggett close behind at 10 games, and Abraham closing in with a streak of seven games.

Third in the high-powered OUA East, Carleton sits two spots ahead of Queen's and just four points behind McGill and UQTR at the top of the table. The Ravens have won their last five contests, including both games of a home-and-home with Concordia last weekend. Before Carleton comes to Kingston for Friday night's matchup, they play at UOIT on Thursday. The Gaels and Ravens have split the season series so far, with the away team coming out victorious in the previous two meetings.

McGill dropped to No.6 in the CIS rankings this week after a 4-2 loss at home to Western last Saturday. The Redmen also beat Guelph 5-2 on Friday. Before McGill hosts Queen's, the Redmen have a Wednesday matchup with No.4 UQTR. McGill got the better of Queen's in their only meeting this season, when the Redmen beat the Gaels 3-2 in Kingston.

The Gaels Friday home game begins at 7:30pm. You can get tickets for this and other upcoming games here

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL
RECORD: 9-1Last time out: W 87-75 @ YorkSTREAK: Won 5
WHO'S HOT?: Jenny Wright - Took over second in Gaels all-time scoring with 1068 points

The No.10 Gaels women's basketball team (9-1) travels to the nation's capital for a Friday night matchup with the No.9 Ottawa Gee-Gees (9-1) and a Saturday night game against the Carleton Ravens (6-4). Both games are set for 6pm tip-off.

Queen's had a quiet weekend with only one game at York last Saturday afternoon, where the Gaels beat the Lions 87-75 in York's Shoot for the Cure game. Seven of the nine Gaels who saw the floor had double-digit point totals, including all five Queen's starters. Entering the game tied with Liz Boag for second all-time in Gaels scoring with 1055 points, Jenny Wright (Kingston, Ont.) scored 13 points to claim sole possession of the runner-up spot to Queen's all-time points leader, Brittany Moore, who finished her five-year career with 1652 points. First-year Myriam Fontaine (Cornwall, Ont.) reached the double-digit mark for the first time in her young career, with 11 points, two rebounds, and two assists for the tricolour off the bench.

With an identical 9-1 record to Queen's, the Gee-Gees repeated the Gaels feat of upsetting the No.5 Ryerson Rams last weekend. Julia Soriano led Ottawa in the overtime victory against Ryerson, scoring eight of her team's 12 points in the extra frame. The win at Ryerson highlights the Gee-Gees current three-game winning streak, which also includes wins at Carleton and Toronto. Ottawa sits comfortably atop the OUA North division, six points clear of second place Carleton. When the Gee-Gees battled Queen's last year, it was Ottawa who came away with a 60-51 win.

The Ravens earned their first win of 2016 last weekend with a 67-63 victory over Toronto, after falling 88-53 to Ryerson and 69-56 to Ottawa to start the new year. Heather Lindsay put Carleton on her back to ensure a Ravens win on Saturday against Toronto, scoring a 19 point, 11 rebound double-double. The Carleton forward is third in OUA field goal percentage, shooting 52.5% from the floor, and third in OUA blocks with 14. The Gaels beat the Ravens 83-51 last season, when the teams played in Kingston.

The CIS pink basketball made it`s way to Queen`s this past week and Queen`s players even took it to a few classes throughout the day. The Gaels host Lakehead on February 6 in their annual Shoot for a Cure game. For details on how you can support this cause click here.

MEN'S BASKETBALL
RECORD: 7-3Last time out: W 62-59 @ YorkSTREAK: Won 1
WHO'S HOT?: Ryall Stroud - Scored double-digits in two straight games, including career-high 25

The Queen's men's basketball team (7-3) has their toughest weekend of the year on the road, as they battle the No.2 Ottawa Gee-Gees (9-1) Friday and the No.3 Carleton Ravens (8-2) Saturday. Both games are scheduled to begin at 8pm.

The Gaels beat York in their only game last weekend 62-59 to earn their first win of the 2016 calendar year. Sukhpreet Singh (Toronto, Ont.) led the Queen's attack with a game-high 22 points, while Ryall Stroud (Toronto) scored 12 points and hauled in eight rebounds. Tanner Graham (Kingston, Ont.) also put together a solid performance for the Gaels, netting seven points to go with seven rebounds.

Ottawa was dethroned in the CIS rankings as the newly No.1 Ryerson Rams handed the Gee-Gees their first loss of the 2015-16 season last weekend. Mike L'Africain totaled 29 points and 13 assists for Ottawa in their 87-61 win over Toronto and 87-80 loss to Ryerson. Despite the loss, the Gee-Gees remain first in the OUA North division one game ahead of Carleton. When the Gaels hosted Ottawa in 2014-15, Queen's was on the losing end of a 91-81 score line.

The Ravens suffered two consecutive losses to start 2016 to Ottawa and Ryerson before getting back on track with an 89-65 win against Toronto. Carleton's 44 bench points, including 16 from Stanley Mayambo, proved too much for Toronto in the Ravens victory. Carleton is 10 points clear of Laurentian and Nipissing in the OUA North standings, and has their sights set on taking the top spot from their cross-town rivals, Ottawa. The last time the Ravens played the Gaels, Carleton beat Queen's 114-45.

Last weekend at York also marked the Gaels Alessio game in honour of former Gael Mike Alessio. To read more on this game and about this year`s scholarship recipient Andrew Mavety, click here.

WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL
RECORD: 8-5Last time out: W 3-0 vs. NipissingSTREAK: Won 4
WHO'S HOT?: Franzi Wilhelm - Totaled 141 assists in last four games

The Gaels women's volleyball team (8-5) travel to play the No.1 Toronto Varsity Blues (12-0) and the Ryerson Rams (9-2) on Friday and Saturday, respectively. Both games will get underway at 6pm.

Queen's continued their four-game winning streak with a 3-1 win against York and a 3-0 victory over Nipissing at the ARC last weekend. Franzi Wilhelm (Lichtenstein, Germany) distributed 49 assists in the four-set win over York, followed by 35 assists against Nipissing. Averaging nearly nine per set, Wilhelm is sixth in OUA assists per set.

The Varsity Blues are cruising through their undefeated season, and picked up two more three-set victories at Waterloo and Ryerson last weekend. Only twice in 2015-16 has Toronto needed more than three sets to finish their opponents, including the Halloween meeting between the Gaels and Varsity Blues that ended 3-1 in favour of Toronto. Queen's currently sits third in the OUA East, chasing Toronto in the top spot and Ryerson in second.

The Rams split their games last weekend, first beating Waterloo in straight sets, then falling 3-0 to Toronto. Ryerson's only two losses on the season have come at the hands of the nation's top ranked Varsity Blues. Veronica Livingston had 28 kills between last weekend's games for Ryerson, while Theanna Vernon had 24 kills combined. Earlier this season, Queen's lost their matchup with the Rams 3-0 in Kingston.

RECORD: 10-3Last time out: W 3-0 vs. NipissingSTREAK: Won 2
WHO'S HOT?: Mike Tomlinson - Has double-digit kills in last four games

The No.8 Queen's men's volleyball team plays a pair of 8pm road games this weekend, starting Friday at the Toronto Varsity Blues (8-6), followed by a Saturday matchup with the Ryerson Rams (10-4).

The Gaels started a new winning streak last weekend with a pair of three-set victories over York and Nipissing at the ARC. Mike Tomlinson (Stratford, Ont.) stoodout among the Queen's players with 29 kills between the two matches. Marko Dakic (Mississauga, Ont.) chipped in with 11 kills against York, while Scott Brunet (Calgary, Alta.) added 10 kills in the win against Nipissing.

Toronto is coming off a 3-2 win against Ryerson and a 3-0 loss to Waterloo. A win against the Rams was big for the Varsity Blues, who are chasing Ryerson, Queen's, and McMaster in the OUA standings. William Colucci led Toronto's offense in the win over Ryerson with 16 kills. The Gaels won 3-0 at home when the Varsity Blues came to Kingston at the end of October earlier this season.

Ryerson and Queen's are tied with 10 wins apiece in the OUA standings, with the Gaels getting the edge because of a game in hand at this point in the season. The Rams are looking to get back in the win column this weekend after dropping both games last weekend, 3-1 to Waterloo and 3-2 to Toronto. Lucas Coleman headlines the Rams offense, scoring 37 kills combined in the last two games. Leading the OUA in both kills and service errors, Ryerson carries a dangerous yet unpredictable attack. The Gaels lost a 3-0 decision to Ryerson at the ARC in their 2015-16 home-opener.
