Queen's claims overall title at Head of the Rideau Regatta

Ottawa, Ont. (September 28, 2014) – The first race of the Queen's Rowing team's season yielded impressive results at the Head of the Rideau Regatta (an event which takes place in the Rideau River). The Gaels took home the Kandahar Trophy for the top University team narrowly beating Trent by a single point. The Gaels also took home several medals in a gruelling 6km technical course.

Larkin Davenport-Huyer (Caledon, Ont) took the gold in the Varsity women's single in a time of 22:17.

In team events, Queen's won: the Women's Eight  (in a time of 19:56) the Varsity Women's (coxed) Four (in a time of 20:17), Varsity lightweight (coxed) Four (in a time of 21:05), the Junior Varsity Women's (coxed) four (21:36), the Women's Varsity Eight (18:50), the Varsity Lightweight Women's Eight (19:26), and the Varsity Men's Eight (17:16).

To top off the successes, in a rivalry that has been ongoing since 1997 with McGill, the Heavyweight Men's and Women's Queen's-McGill Boat Race. The boat race was initially scheduled for the spring but was postponed until this Sunday as a result of residual ice.

The next Regatta for the rowing team, as well as the Novice races and Overall Queen's-McGill title will be at Head of the Trent next weekend.
