Kingston Rowers strike gold at Royal Canadian Henley Regatta

ST. CATHARINE'S, Ontario (August 12, 2014) - Five Queen's rowers won gold medals at the Royal Canadian Henley Regatta held in St. Catherine's last week.

On Sunday Nick Pratt, who is a KCVI and Queen's grad now training at the Rowing Canada London Training Center, won the Championship Men's Single in a time of 8:01.91 ahead of London training Center teammates Alex Walker who finished second (8:08.31) and Taylor Pluzak in third (8:09.27). Queen's student Sean Whitehall competing for the Kingston Rowing Club, won the Senior Men's 64 kg Single in a time of 8:34.39 followed by Alex Verkuyt of St. Catharines (8:37.45) and Charles Hardy-Cardinal of Boucherville (8:40.35).

The Gaels also had a strong showing Sunday from Joe Kunkel competing for the Ottawa Rowing Club, who struck gold in the U23 Men's Lightweight Pair with partner Mac Bruce Fuaco in a time of 7:46.77

On Friday, Queen's rower Jordan Rendall also racing for the Kingston Rowing Club won a hotly contested senior men's lightweight single in a time of 7:43.58 just 0.51 seconds ahead of Taylor Hardy of Burnaby with Joseph Purman of Malta in third 6.02 seconds back while Gaels rowers Liz Price and Michelle Truax placed second in the senior women's pair behind a duo of former US national team women from the New York Athletic Club.

On Thursday Queen's rower Emily Baturin rowing for the St. Catharine's Rowing Club with partner Lindsay Sferazza of Western won the Senior Women's Lightweight Double in a time of 7:18.09
