Gaels win OUA semi-final 46-3 against Brock

KINGSTON, Ont. (November 3, 2012) The Queen's Gaels will advance to the OUA championship, and look to win their first league banner in three years, after a well-deserved win against the Brock Badgers, 46-3. 

The Gaels put the first points on the board, with a quick try by Liam Underwood of Toronto, Ont.  in the eleventh minute. The Gaels put together a phase that resulted in Underwood gaining possession, and running the ball over the try line.  Brock quickly came back and added some points of their own to the score board, with a drop goal kicked by Zack Lamacraft.

In the fifteenth minute of play, the Gaels chose to take a penalty kick instead of going into a scrum. Underwood took the penalty, increasing the Gaels lead to 8-3.  Graham Turner of Oakville, Ont. scored the second try for Queen's, the try was scored by a crash ball inside the try line off of a ruck. Underwood kicked a successful conversion, bringing te Gaels to a 15-3 lead at the half.

Queen's started off the second half strong, with Tim Richardson of Vancouver, B.C. scoring a try in the first minute of the second half. Brendan McGovern of Ottawa, Ont. put the next points on the board for the Gaels after Richardson passed the ball to him, resulting in another try for the Queen's Gaels. Underwood kicked another successful conversion increasing their lead to 27-3.

In the seventy-first minute of play, Mike Van der Westhuizen of Victoria, B.C. broke through Brock's back line scoring another try for Queen's.  Graham Turner added to the Gaels scoreboard with a try off a twenty-five yard run. Adam McQueen of Canmore, Alta. Kicked the conversion bringing the score to 39-3.

In the last minutes of play, George Gleeson of  Toronto, Ont. found a gap in the Badgers defense, scoring another try for the Gaels. McQueen kicked another successful conversion, bringing the final score to 46-3 for Queen's.

The Queen's Gaels will compete for the OUA Championship next Sunday at Nixon Field against the winner of Sunday's Western-Guelph semifinal..
