OTTAWA (May 20, 2011) – Queen's women's soccer player
Brienna Shaw of Vancouver, B.C., was one of 20 CIS athletes announced Friday who will represent Canada in women's soccer at the 26th Summer Universiade in August in Shenzhen, China.
The third year defender will be making her second consecutive appearance as a member of the FISU team after helping Canada to a seventh place finish in Belgrade, Serbia after her rookie season in 2009.
The three-time OUA East First Team All-Star is coming off an excellent season for the Gaels. Shaw scored four goals during the regular season before anchoring the Queen's backline during the Gaels run to their second national championship in team history.
Shaw becomes the second Queen's student-athlete to be named to a FISU team in the past week, joining men's volleyball player Joren Zeeman of Cambridge, Ont.
Shaw and Team Canada will play in Pool A at the competition against the host Chinese, Great Britain and Taiwan. The women's soccer tournament runs from August 11-21.
