KINGSTON, Ont. (September 16, 2010) - Former Queen's Gael rower
Morgan Jarvis was named to Rowing Canada's Men's Lightweight 4 Crew and is set to compete in the 2010 World Rowing Championships which will be held at Lake Karapiro in New Zealand.
The World Championships will be a homecoming of sorts for Jarvis, who hails from Clearwater Bay, Ont., but spent time at a boarding school in New Zealand as a teenager which is where he took up rowing. He continued rowing during his years at Queen's and medalled at the Under 23 and World Championships respectively in 2004 and 2005 while an undergraduate.
Jarvis experienced success with the Gaels as well last season as he won the Lightweight Men's Single , and topped two national rowers who represented Canada in the 2008 Beijing Olympics in the process. This was one of many wins he had in 2009 including a victory at the Head of the Rideau regatta where Jarvis beat the course record by over 20 seconds with a time of 19 minutes 35 seconds.
Jarvis will be looking for a good showing in the World Rowing Championships as he sets his sights ahead to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, England and the opportunity to row for Canada. The 2010 World Rowing Championships will be taking place from October 30 to November 7.
