HAMILTON, Ont. (November 6, 2010) - Despite a seven point performance from
David Worsley (Vancouver), the Queen's Gaels will not be defending their OUA men's rugby title as they dropped a 34-20 decision to the McMaster Marauders on Saturday.
The Gaels struck first in the game as Worsley put a drop goal through to give Queen's the early lead. The lead was increased even further as Dan Moor (Toronto) added a penalty goal shortly after Worsley's marker.
McMaster responded before half as they added three tries and two conversions. Queen's would get the last points on the boards before halftime as
Myles Dingwall (Ottawa) scored a try, and Worsely added a conversion to bring the score back to 19-13 at halftime.
McMaster would strike first after the break with a penalty goal. However, the Gaels would respond with a try from
Shane Baddeley (Peterborough, Ont.) and Worsley would add yet another convert.
That would be the end of Queen's scoring as McMaster would add two tries and a convert before time expired.
Despite the score, the game was very close a a good battle between two teams A number of solid performances came from players who did not register points including
Mason Curtis (Cobourg, Ont.),
Peter Wilson (Toronto),
Andrew Kirk (Paris, Ont.), and
Mike Wong (Barrie, Ont.)
The Gaels will shift their focus to a third place finish as they will play in the OUA Bronze Medal game on November 14 at Fletcher's Field in Markham. They will take on the Brock Badgers with the start time yet to be announced.
