Fort Langley, B.C. (November 2, 2008) – Queen's rowing was the one of two universities in Canada to place a finalist in all 12 events tallying six podium finishes including two gold's at the Canadian University Rowing Championship in Fort Langley, B.C.
Katya Herman of Sudbury, Ont. earned two medals capturing gold in the women's lightweight double with partner Alexandra Meiklejohn of Toronto and claimed silver in the lightweight single. Herman narrowly missed the podium in the women's heavyweight single placing fourth.
Queen's other first place finish came from the women's lightweight four made up by Kristine Matusiak of Glenburnie, Ont., Catherine Moores of Vancouver, Charly Thivierge-Lortie of Montreal, Caylen Heckel of Fort Erie, Ont. and coxed by Ashley Niblett of Toronto.
The women's team finished second in the overall standings with 97 points. The University of Western Ontario finished in first with 104 points. Last week Queen's won the provincial banner topping Western at the OUA Championship.
On the men's side, Queen's was able to take two silvers and earned a bronze in six events. Nick Pratt of Kingston, Ont. claimed a second place finish in the men's lightweight single and then joined the men's lightweight four to earn another second place result. Joining Pratt on the lightweight four crew were Rares Crisan of Mississauga, Ont., Ryan Meyers of Kingston, Ont., Colin Sutherland of Victoria, B.C. and coxed by Taylor Donaldson of Owen Sound, Ont.
Rob Ballard of Vancouver and John Barr of St Catharines, Ont. combined for a third place finish in the men's lightweight two.
Western claimed the overall title with 116 points, while the University of Victoria was second with 100 points. Queen's was third posting 83 points in the championship regatta.
