Queen's Field Hockey travelled to Waterloo this Friday to play their season opener against the Waterloo Warriors. The Gaels came out strong, showing solid teamwork and composure. Waterloo was able to score a goal early in the game on a penalty corner. The Gaels held them off for most of the second period but Waterloo scored in the 24th minute. The Gaels used the halftime break to reset and were able to keep the half scoreless until late in the 4th quarter when Waterloo was awarded a penalty stroke. Sarah Downes almost made the save, but the Warriors were able to score. The final score was 3-0 for Waterloo.

The next day, Queen's played the Western Mustangs in London, Ont. The Gaels came out hungry looking for a win to wrap up the weekend. The Mustangs took an early lead, but the Gaels quickly recovered with fourth year Ainsley Sheahan scoring the Gaels first goal of the season. Hailey Bauder scored a goal of a penalty corner late in the second quarter finishing the first half with a score of 2-1 for Queen's. In the third quarter the Gaels scored two more goals from Sophie Kern and Hannah Bacon during open play. In the end, the Gaels came out with a 4-1 win. 

The team is looking forward to their home opener this Saturday, September 19 at 2pm against the Guelph Gryphons.
