KINGSTON, Ont. (September 11, 2026) – Former Queen's Women's Rugby standout Lizzie Gibson (Artsci'24) has been recognized as the all-time leading scorer in U SPORTS women's rugby, finishing her career with a record 571 points.

The record, officially recognized in the 2026 U SPORTS Women's Rugby Record Book, places Gibson atop the national career scoring list, 191 points ahead of current Queen's Women's Rugby full-time assistant coach Brittany Benn, who ranks second all-time with 380 points while playing for the Guelph Gryphons.

Gibson's record-setting career at Queen's spanned five seasons, competing in 2019 and from 2022-25. She finished her career as the Gaels' all-time leading scorer and added her name to the top of the U SPORTS record book following a remarkable final season in 2025.

"Over her career at Queen's, Lizzie Gibson established herself as one of the most accomplished players in U SPORTS history," said Queen's Women's Rugby Head Coach Dan Valley.

"Most importantly, Lizzie's growth as a teammate and leader defined her final season. In 2025–26, she became the emotional heartbeat of our program, embodying our values of Belonging and Excellence while elevating the standards of everyone around her. Watching her evolution as a player, person and leader has been one of the great privileges of my coaching career."

Gibson's 2022 campaign remains the U SPORTS single-season record for points at 176, while her 53 conversions that season also rank second all-time. Gibson also owns the third highest single-season points total all-time, with 157 recorded last year.

Gibson's career record is highlighted by 39 tries and an astonishing 179 conversions, both among the top totals in U SPORTS history. Her 179 career conversions are the national record.

Gibson's impact extended well beyond the record book. During her Queen's career, she was a four-time OUA champion and five-time U SPORTS medalist, earning OUA Rookie of the Year honours in 2019, OUA Player of the Year honours in 2022 and 2025, and U SPORTS Player of the Year honours in 2022.

She was also a five-time OUA First Team All-Star and a five-time U SPORTS All-Canadian, while leading the nation in scoring in each of her final four seasons from 2022 through 2025.
In 2025, Gibson helped Queen's Women's Rugby finish the regular season with a perfect 6-0 record. She scored a career-high 55 points in a 160-0 victory over York on Sept. 6, earning OUA Player of the Week honours.

Gibson was also the recipient of the PHE '55 Alumnae Award at the 2025-26 Queen's Athletics & Recreation Colour Awards. The award recognizes a senior women's varsity athlete who best demonstrates competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, humanitarianism, scholastic achievement and exceptional contributions to their team.
Internationally, Gibson represented Canada at the 2024 FISU World Rugby Sevens University Championship.

Now an alumna, Gibson leaves Queen's having established herself as one of the most accomplished players in program and U SPORTS history.

Her 571 career points stand alone at the top of the national record book, with Benn's 380 points and Anne-Charlotte Beaulieu's 373 points rounding out the top three.
