Queen's Distance Track's Jude Wheeler-Dee wins double gold at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championship

Queen's Distance Track's Jude Wheeler-Dee captured two national gold medals at the U SPORTS Track & Field Championships this weekend in Winnipeg, Man, winning the Men's 3,000M on Friday night and the Men's 1,500M on Saturday afternoon.

On Friday, Wheeler-Dee (Chemistry) won the 3,000M event by nearly one second, crossing the finish line with a final time of 8:16.66, with the McMaster Marauders' Samuel Patrick finishing second with a time of 8:17.60.

Tanner Hueglin (Arts & Science) also competed in the event for the Gaels, finishing 13th overall with a time of 8:44.79.

Wheeler-Dee followed the Friday gold medal up with another first place finish on Saturday, crossing the finish line ahead of the pack in the 1,500M with a final time of 3:46.38, more than three seconds ahead of the second place finisher from McGill.

On the Women's side, the Gaels' Elizabeth Vroom (Engineering) competed in the Women's 1,000M event on Friday and the Women's 1,500M event on Saturday.

Vroom finished eighth overall in the 1,000M event with a final time of 2:49.36, and eighth overall in the 1,500M event with a final time of 4:30.94.
