Queen's opens their East Final series at the Memorial Centre in front of a packed crowd of Gaels fans, looking to capitalize on their only home game of the series and grab a crucial win before the battle shifts to Quebec.

The Gaels came out flying and set the tone early. Third-year defenceman Michael Renwick (Arts & Sciences), who has been red-hot at a point-per-game pace this postseason, opened the scoring on the power play. Renwick stepped into a shot from the point and wired it through traffic to beat the goaltender, with Aidan Castle (Arts & Sciences) and Derek Hamilton (Arts & Sciences) picking up the assists on the man-advantage marker.

The Patriotes answered back shortly after, capitalizing on their opportunity to even the score at one apiece. But the Gaels didn't take long to respond. Veteran forward Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) restored Queen's lead, finishing off a beautiful passing play set up by Sebbie Johnson (Arts & Sciences) and Ian Lemieux (Arts & Sciences). Queen's closed out the second period holding a 2–1 lead.

The Gaels wasted no time extending their lead early in the second period. Just 3:33 into the frame, forward Liam Tanner (Kinesiology) found space in the slot and snapped home a perfect shot past the goaltender. The goal was set up by Michael Renwick (Arts & Sciences), who picked up his second point of the night with a great feed, along with Ante Zlomislic (Applied Science).

Queen's special teams played a key role throughout the period, coming up with several timely penalty kills to keep the game in their favor. Late in the frame, however, the Patriotes struck twice in quick succession to even the score, sending both teams into the third period tied and setting the stage for a tense, 20-minute battle to decide the winner.

The third period turned into a hard-fought, physical battle, with both teams finishing checks, dumping pucks deep, and battling for every inch of ice.

With just over two minutes remaining, Nolan Hutcheson (Health Studies) came through in the clutch once again, burying a gritty goal from the top of the crease to give Queen's the lead. The Memorial Centre erupted as Hutcheson's second goal of the night swung the momentum firmly back to the Gaels. The tally was set up by Sebbie Johnson (Arts & Sciences), who picked up his second assist of the evening.

From there, Queen's locked things down defensively, battling hard in their own zone before sealing the win with an empty-net goal to make it 5–3, sending the home crowd into celebration.

Speaking after the game, Nolan Hutcheson reflected on what has been working for him and the team down the stretch.

"We're just sticking to what we do best here," Hutcheson said. "We've found ways to win games, and in my final year here I'm just trying to do whatever I can to help this group keep it going."

Looking ahead to the series shifting to Quebec, Hutcheson acknowledged there are still areas to clean up but emphasized the team's focus moving forward.

"We had a few lapses in there tonight, so we'll look back, learn from them, and tighten things up," he said. "At the end of the day, we know we have to go into UQTR and find a way to win one."

Queen's Men's Hockey now hits the road as the series shifts to Quebec. The Gaels will face UQTR on Saturday at 7:00 PM, with Game Three set for Sunday at 7:00 PM if necessary.
