Queen's Men's Volleyball's Reed Venning named U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian, Carson Francis named to U SPORTS All-Rookie Team

Queen's Men's Volleyball had two players earn U SPORTS All-Canadian honours at the U SPORTS Men's Volleyball All-Canadian Awards banquet Wednesday night in Windsor, Ont.

The Gaels' Reed Venning was named a U SPORTS Second Team All-Canadian while Carson Francis was named to the U SPORTS All-Rookie Team.

Venning (Arts & Science), who was named an OUA First Team All-Star last week, led the Gaels and finished eight in the OUA in points with 292 on the season. Venning's 227 kills were second on the team and 11th in the OUA while his .325 hitting percentage led the Gaels and ranked sixth in the OUA. Venning was also second on Queen's in digs with 94 and tied for third in blocks with 28.

"Reed Venning has had an exceptional OUA career and I'm so proud of his First Team All-Star selection this season," said Queen's Men's Volleyball Head Coach Gabriel deGroot last week. "Reed has a generational arm swing that has set him apart from the league in his point scoring abilities."

Francis (Economics), who was also named to the OUA's All-Rookie Team last week, led the Gaels in his first season on the team with 103 digs.

"Carson Francis has had nothing short of a spectacular rookie season," deGroot said. "He has already established himself as one of the purest receivers in the country. His role as Libero will only continue to grow over the coming years and I can't wait to see how much he is able to accomplish in his career."

Queen's Men's Volleyball opens their U SPORTS Men's Volleyball Championship Friday at 2 PM against the UBC Thunderbirds. Fans can catch the action on CBC Gem.
