Carson Francis (Queen's Men’s Volleyball) named Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient as Varsity Teams Men’s Sports Rookie of the Year

Carson Francis from Queen's Men's Volleyball was named the Men's Sports Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient for the 2025-26 seaosn at the Queen's Athletics & Recreation Colour Awards banquet on Wednesday night.

The Alfie Pierce Trophy is awarded annually to honour a Men's Sports student-athlete on Varsity Teams who have contributed the most to athletics in their first year at Queen's.

Francis (Economics) was named to both the U SPORTS and OUA All-Rookie Teams for the 2025-26 season.

Francis led the Gaels in his first season on the team with 103 digs, helping Queen's Men's Volleyball win their second straight OUA Forsyth Cup Championship.

"Carson took the role of starting libero in the early part of our exhibition schedule and never looked back," said Queen's Men's Volleyball Head Coach Gabriel deGroot. "His national and provincial team program experience has allowed him to seamlessly transition to the university level. Carson has established himself as one of the best serve receivers in the OUA and will be a top candidate for the U21 national team this summer. Carson started in all 20 regular season games and has been pivotal in the men's volleyball playoff stretch."
