Queen's Football bounce back with massive road win over historic rival Toronto Varsity Blues

Queen's Football travelled to Toronto, Ont. on Saturday and came away with a massive 44-6 win over their historic rivals, the Toronto Varsity Blues, at Varsity Stadium.

With the 38-point win, No. 9 ranked Queen's improved their record to 2-2.

The game was tight through the first quarter, with the two teams opening the game by trading field goals before Alex Vreeken gave Queen's the edge with the first of three touchdown passes to Nathan Falconi. Queen's then started pulling ahead in the second quarter, outscoring the Varsity Blues 7-3 to take a two-score lead into half time, before completely running away with the game in the second half.

Standout performances on offence included Vreeken (Kinesiology), who finished 14-20 for 223 and three touchdowns, and Falconi (Health Studies), who led Queen's in receiving with four receptions for 74 yards and three scores, as well as Jared Chisari (Graduate Studies), who had a monster game on the ground, recording 183 yards and two touchdowns on 21 carries in the win.

Queen's Football's defence was outstanding all game as well, forcing Toronto into five interceptions. The charge was led by defensive backs John Corscadden (Graduate Studies) who finished the game with three interceptions, and Ashton Miller-Melancon (Arts & Science), who added two picks in the win.

Justin Pace (Economics), led the way with six tackles (five solo, two combined) for Queen's.

Tyler Mullan (Arts & Science) continued a strong season on special teams, connecting on three field goals and five PATs for 14 points.

Queen's Football remains on the road next weekend, travelling to Waterloo, Ont. to take on the Waterloo Warriors on Saturday, Sept. 20 at 1 p.m. Fans can catch all the action on OUA.tv.
