Ollie Engen Named U SPORTS Rookie of the Year

Queen's Men's Basketball standout Ollie Engen capped off a historic debut season with national recognition, earning the U SPORTS Rookie of the Year at the U SPORTS Men's Basketball All-Canadian Awards banquet in Vancouver, BC, on Wednesday night.

The Kingston, Ont., native had an unparalleled rookie campaign, previously securing OUA Rookie of the Year while also being named an OUA First Team All-Star and All-Rookie Team selection. 

Engen (Kinesiology) led all Queen's and U SPORTS rookies in total points with 394 and points per game, averaging 18.8, while also leading Queen's program in assists with 81.

"Ollie has had a phenomenal rookie campaign," said Queen's Head Coach, Steph Barrie. "He has a relentless desire to get better and has earned his success by putting in countless hours into his development. He is a great teammate, always giving others support and enthusiasm for their success.  He has an incredibly bright future."


The first-year guard finished among the nation's best in multiple statistical categories, including third in total field goals made with 161 out of 310 attempts and sixth in free-throw percentage at 86.3%.

From the free-throw line, Engen was equally lethal, ranking first in U SPORTS in free-throw percentage with an impressive 87.5%.

With a record-breaking first season now in the books, Engen has established himself as one of the brightest young stars in Canadian university basketball.
