Queen's Women's Foil Team Wins Bronze at the 2025 RMC Team Fencing Invitational
A total of 199 teams from OUA schools, clubs in Ontario and Quebec, and military teams from Canada, the Netherlands, and the United Kingdom participated in the 54th Annual Royal Military College Team Invitational held at the Kingston Military Community Sports Centre on November 1-2.
Queen's Women's Foil A Team - consisting of rookie Alison Wang, Women's Team Captain
Sophie Kitson, Women's Foil Captain
Sarah Jacobson, and
Tia Gayowsky - won the bronze medal match on the first day of competition with a score of 45-42 against the Les Seigneurs de la Rive-Nord team from Blainville, Quebec. The lead shifted from the Gaels to their opponents in each of the 9 bouts of the fence-off for the podium, leaving Queen's trailing going into the final match up. Wang came back in the final bout of the match, scoring 10 points to her opponent's 4 to secure the third place finish and the first team competition medal of the season for the Gaels.
The Queen's Women's Foil B team faced tough competition from the Ottawa Fencing Club and University of Toronto's A team and didn't make it to the direct elimination round, finishing 25th overall.
Also in action on Saturday were the Queen's Men's Sabre and Epee teams. With one of their key sabrists out due to injury, the Queen's team decided to divide up their other top fencers between the A and B teams. Men's Team Captain
Luigi Burjato along with rookies Ben van Eeden and Leo Zhao managed to win against Brock's B team in the poules securing them a place in the direct elimination round where they fell to Markham's United Fencing Club and ended their day in 25th place. Queen's Sabre B team were unable to defeat either Western's A team or the sabre team from Club d'escrime Sher-Lames (Sherbrooke, Quebec) and, as result were unable to make it into the next round of competition finishing 29th overall.
The Queen's Men's Epee squad won one of their poule bout against Toronto Metropolitan University and narrowly made it into the direct round where they fell to the A team from the University of Toronto.
The Queen's A teams participating in Sunday's events all had great performances each finishing in the top 8 of their events.
The Men's Foil A team consisting of rookie Graeme Wood, Men's Foil Captain
Pendleton Murray,
Ewan Peterson, and
Benjamin Niemi dominated their poule beating the RMC B team and a combined team of Dutch and Canadian military fencers. The Queen's B team went 1-for-2 in their poules, earning a spot in the direct elimination round where they were bested by the University of Toronto A team. After getting a bye, the Queen's A team would avenge their teammates, beating UofT-A before succumbing to the University of Waterloo in the quarter-finals. The Queen's A team ended up in 5th place and the B team came in at 21st overall.
The Queen's Women's Epee A Team (Women's Epee Captain
Elizabeth Fullerton, Xinyi August Wang,
Lillian Liu, and
Songyeon Kim) bested Brock University and Les Seigneurs de la Rive-Nord in the poules, earning a bye in the first Direct Elimination round. Their final bout Round of 16 match against Trent ended in a tie at 42, sending anchor
Autumn Wang to a one-minute overtime period where she fought for a dramatic single light, earning her team a spot in the quarter finals. In the Round of 8, the Gaels fell to the eventual silver medalists from Escrime Mont-Royal, finishing in 8th place. The Queen's Women's Epee B team beat University of Guelph in the poules which secured them a spot in the DEs. Facing tough opposition from a club team featuring Western alumni, they ended the day 13th overall.
In the final event of the competition, Queen's Women's Sabre fielded three teams and repeated the success of their Epeeist teammates coming in 8th and 13th with the third team also finishing in the top 16th. Queen's Women's Sabre A team -

Cary Tu - beat the RMC Paladins B team and the team from Club d'escrime du Roussillon of Sainte-Catherine, Quebec, in the poules and then the Paladins' A team in the Round of 16. They were unable to match Montreal's Brébeuf team in the quarter-finals, who had also eliminated the Queen's B team the previous round. The Queen's Women's Sabre C team also made it to the Round of 16 where they were beaten by University of Toronto's A team.
The Queen's Fencing Team head to St. Catharines for their next competition, the Brock Open, on November 15-16, 2025.
Queen's Water Polo
Queen's Men's and Women's Water Polo hosted a crucial east-west division cross over event at ARC this weekend. This event included every NCWP team so it gave a great preview of the championship weekend we will host at the end of November.
The Gaels Women were 3-1 on the weekend, securing their #2 seed for this seasons championship. They opened the weekend Saturday with a comfortable 13-6 win over Carleton Ravens and followed it with an evening win in similar style, 14-7 winners over Mac.
Sunday they opened the day with a hard fought 3-18 loss to UofT, a team that has never lost an NCWP match. That was followed up with a back and forth 11-9 victory over #3 McGill to close the weekend event.
Leading the women in scoring were captains Ally Rowe with 12 goals and Evie Carr with 11.
The Gaels Men started Saturday with a pair of wins over OttawaGee Gee's 20-2 and McGill 14-6. Sunday the team meet some tougher opponents and lost their morning game to Mac 11-22, evening their season series with them. They followed that with a tough 9-16 loss to number 2 Western that sets up a potential final drama as Mac and Western may see Queen's in their championship draw.
Leading the men were Kristijan Markovski with 15, Caiomyn Fitzgerald and Lazar Paraovski with 7 each and Jake Kost with 6.
Queen's will host the NCWP Championships at ARC on November 28-30.
