Gaels Stay Hot: Cranney Nets Hat Trick in 4–2 Win Over Gee-Gees

Queen's Women's Hockey returned to the Memorial Centre on Friday night, lacing up in front of a lively home crowd for a fast-paced tilt with the Ottawa Gee-Gees.

The night opened with a special milestone as Carys Collie (Life Sciences) suited up for her 100th game as a Gael, earning a well-deserved ovation from the stands.

Ottawa struck first, capitalizing on a power play with a back-door tap-in to make it 1–0. Queen's answered right back on their own man-advantage as Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Science) ripped a wrist shot from the left circle, beating the Ottawa net minder to even the score with Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) picking up the assist. Ottawa regained the lead late in the frame, converting with under five minutes remaining to take a 2–1 edge into the first intermission.

The second period turned into a tight, defensive battle, with both teams trading looks and their goaltenders standing tall. Despite plenty of pace, neither side managed to break through, and Ottawa held the 2–1 advantage heading into the third.

Queen's came out buzzing in the final frame. Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Sciences) buried a slick tap-in off a perfect feed from Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce) to level the game at 2–2. Minutes later, Cranney completed the hat trick, hammering home Queen's third of the game. The play was set up by Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) , who recorded her 20th point of the season to remain atop the OUA scoring race, with Melissa Parton (Arts & Sciences) adding the secondary assist.

As Ottawa pushed hard in the final minutes, Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) sealed the win with an empty-net goal, securing a 4–2 victory and keeping the Gaels undefeated at home.

Queen's is right back in action tomorrow as they head to Toronto to face the TMU Bold. Puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m., with live coverage on OUA.TV. Tune in and back the Gaels as they continue to sit first in the East Division standings.
