Queen's Women's Hockey hit the road to North Bay for a Saturday evening match up against the Nipissing Lakers. Goaltender Emma Tennant (Mechanical Engineering) came up huge early, turning aside seven key shots to keep the game scoreless. The Gaels also stood tall on a late penalty kill, shutting down a tough power play. Queen's pushed back with a few quality chances of their own, leaving the first period deadlocked 0–0 after 20 minutes of fast-paced, end-to-end action.
Nipissing struck first, scoring just one minute into the second period on the power play to grab an early lead. The Gaels answered back with some heavy pressure in the offensive zone, as second-year defenseman Scarlett Nowakowski (Commerce) finished off a power-play chance at 4:09, assisted by Mikayla Cranney (Arts & Sciences), tying the game. Queen's kept pushing, cycling the puck and generating chances, and with 7:21 left in the period, Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) buried one off a setup from Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) to give the Gaels a 2–1 advantage heading into the third.
The Gaels remained scoreless in the third but carried a 2–1 lead for most of the period, dictating play and keeping the Lakers to the perimeter. With just 4:06 remaining, Nipissing found the equalizer to make it 2–2, sending Queen's to overtime for the second time this season.
The Gaels sealed the win in thrilling fashion, taking the game in overtime.
Sophie Hudson (Chemical Engineering) came up clutch, netting her second of the night to lift Queen's to victory.
Jada Wood (Arts & Sciences) picked up the assist — her second of the game — as the Gaels skated away with a hard-fought 3–2 win.
