Queen's Sailing alumnus Will Jones to compete for Canada at Paris 2024 Olympics

Queen's Sailing alumnus William Jones will compete for Team Canada at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics, Sail Canada announced.

It will be the second straight Summer Games Jones will have competed in, after also representing Canada at the 2021 Tokyo Olympics.

Jones is competing in the Men's 49er event again. Jones finished with a best result of 12th in two of the 12 races in Tokyo in 2021. Along with his crewmate Evan DePaul, Jones finished 12th out of 19 teams in Race 6 and Race 9. The two also had a 13th place finish in Race 10.

Since the Tokyo Games in 2021, Jones had represented Canada in several international events, including the World Sailing Hempel World Cup and 49er, 49erFX and Nacra 17 World Championships in 2022, Sailing World Championships and Pan Am Games in 2023, and the 49er and 49erFX World Championships in 2024. Jones' international results were highlighted by a bronze medal in the 2023 Pan Am Games.

Jones was part of the Queen's varsity sailing club from the 2013-14 season to the 2016-17 season and helped capture the Canadian Intercollegiate Sailing Association (CICSA) National Championship in every season he competed. He competed in keelboat, fleet racing, and team racing, helping Queen's win multiple keelboat and fleet racing championships, and the Canadian Sailing Triple Crown (fleet racing, team racing, and big boats) in 2015-16.

Jones was named the CICSA Male Skipper of the Year and won the Student Yachting World Cup in his final season in 2016-17.

The Men's 49er event at the Paris 2024 Olympics take place from July 28 to August 1.
