Nathan Duffar-Calder (Queen's Sailing) named Jack Jarvis Trophy recipient as Varsity Clubs Men’s Sports Athlete of the Year

Nathan Duffar-Calder of Sailing was named the Jack Jarvis Trophy recipient for the 2025-26 season at Queen's Athletics & Recreation's Colour Awards banquet Tuesday night.

The Jack Jarvis Trophy is presented to a Varsity Club senior Men's Sports student-athlete who best displays qualities of competitiveness, leadership, sportsmanship, dedication, humanitarianism, scholastic achievement, and exceptional contributions to their team.

Duffar-Calder (Commerce) was named Queen's Sailing's Male MVP this season after finishing as a Team Race National Champion, as well as finishing second place in the Fleet Race Nationals.

Duffar-Calder has also been named an Ontario Fleet Race Regional Champion and was named the Queen's Athletics & Recreation's Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient in their first year as Varsity Clubs Rookie of the Year.

"Nathan is one of our most accomplished sailors," said Queen's Sailing President Danielle Boyd. "He won Team Race Nationals and came second at Fleet Race Nationals this season as well as being a top competitor at regular season and regional regattas. He was not only the Sailing Team Rookie of the Year in his rookie season, but the Alfie Pierce Trophy recipient. He also came into Queen's having been a Canadian Youth Sailing Team Member and the Canadian Youth Champion in his respective class, the 29er. Outside of Queen's, he came second at Fall Cork 2023 out of 17 boats and third at WAZSP North American Championships out of 23 boats, and the Canadian Youth Champion in the 29er.

"He has exceptional practice performance and attendance, dedicated outside regular practices and lifts. Nathan is the sailor you likely see out alone on the lake on a cold day getting in extra hours outside of regular practice time."
