Varsity Clubs Weekend Recap: Queen’s Women’s Water Polo defeat NCAA opponent, Grove City Wolverines, in overtime

KINGSTON, Ont. (Feb. 26, 2024) – Queen's Women's Water Polo opened their winter exhibition schedule this past weekend at the ARC Pool, hosting their first NCAA opponent, the Grove City Wolverines, who were making their first National Collegiate Water Polo (NCWP) tour stop in Kingston.

The Gaels needed overtime, but defeated the Wolverines 12-10. With the game coming at the end of winter reading week, Queen's was working with a shortened roster. The Gaels had a letdown mid-game after taking a 4-3 lead at half, with the regular score ending 10-10.

Using the NCAA overtime format of two three-minute quarters, Queen's would go on to secure victory with rookie Jula Kolosov scoring the game-winner.

Sam Lee led the Gaels with five goals while Ari Wilson McDermid had three, Ally Rowe finished with two, and Kolosov and Sophia Herrington recorded one each.

Queen's Men's Water Polo will host an alumni challenge on Saturday, March 2 at the ARC Pool.
